- Applicant must be an honorably discharged veteran or a son or daughter (adopted, step, grand, or great-grand) of a living, deceased, or disabled honorably discharged veteran who served during these active war dates:
a.) April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918 (WWI)
b.) December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946 (WWII)
c.) June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955 (Korean War)
d.) February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
e.) August 24, 1982 - July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada )
f.) December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990 (Panama)
g.) August 2, 1990 to cessation (Desert Storm) - Must be a resident of Ohio
- Must be sponsored by an Ohio American Legion Auxiliary Unit
- Must be preparing to enter his/her Freshman year of college
- Winner shall be selected based on the following criteria: 1-Americanism, 2-Character, 3-Financial Need, 4-Leadership, and 5-Scholarship
- Must write an essay(500 words maximum) entitled "Education and the American Dream"
